Installing EPM 11.1.2.4 in Windows 2012

In this blog let me cover installing EPM 11.1.2.4 in Windows 2012 (i was preparing a VM box for POC, thought to cover the installation as a blog hope it will help someone)

Installing Enterprise Performance Management 11.1.2.4

Have downloaded the needed as shown below for the installation of EPM 11.1.2.4 (I will be installing Essbase, Planning, R&A (FR),FDMEE & DRM) for the Windows 64 bit box.

Extracted the 6 zip files to a common location and calling the installer. Make sure its run as administrator.

Select the language as needed, here it will be English.

The Pre-requisite check is done by the installer and reports any issue if there are any. 

What does Outline Load utility (OLU) offers?

As we all know that the Outline Load utility can be used to import metadata and data for standard & custom dimensions, attributes, UDAs, exchange rates, Smart Lists, and planning unit hierarchies from a flat file or a relational data source. 

You can also export metadata and data to a flat file or export metadata to a relational data source using the Outline Load utility

Here let me cover how to load metadata & data from a relational data source using the Outline Load utility

Loading the Metadata from relational data source to Hyperion Planning using OLU

1. Create a metedata.properties file

A sample .properties file is created as shown below which can connect to a external Relation data source along with the SQL to retrieve the needed metadata in the needed format with all the customized transformation you need, yes if you can't use ODI then this is awesome :-)

How to assign more than one owner for an Planning Unit

A interesting discussion came in Oracle OTN which says that having trouble in mapping Budgeting Requirement for approvals and data entry. Is there any way that we can have more than 1 user for any given planning unit?

For example there are 20 entity members and we each member represents a different location/geography. Each Entity member do have 1 user for data entry and 1 approval. The Power User from the Head Office that also have authority to change/update the budget data for all the 20 entities. 

So how can 2 or more users can play the role of Owner for a particular planning unit (Entity)? 

Well we all know that under users you cannot select more than 1 user for a Planning unit.

Opening big forms in Hyperion Planning

Came across this issue that Hyperion Planning a data form (it was one of the biggest form we had)  is taking a while to show the data and shows "fetching data" for a while.

This is was tested on 11.1.2.4

For On premise Hyperion Planning

Well there is flag available (for quite some time) to change the value of the number of the rows & columns are populated in the data forms.

Invoking PushData.sh as ad-hoc or scheduled job from Hyperion Workspace

Background:

Users need to copy the data from the PSBP (Oracle Hyperion Public Sector Planning and Budgeting) manpower cube to the Opex cube (operating expense), since this is on 11.1.2.3.500 the Mapping Planning Applications to Reporting Applications is available already to do the job.

The Catch is there is no individual role available (atleast in 11.1.2.3 500) for running the utility. And giving admin access to run this utility was not a solution.

We need to have a job which can invoke the Pushdata utility and we can give access to a user to access only that job, similar to a FR report or a IR job (yes I am from the IR background J)

Issue:

The solution came to the mind is using publishing a batch file which will call the Pushdata.sh in Workspace so we can provision the job to the required user.

The Challenge was our Foundation & Planning were installed on Linux and the Reporting & Analysis was installed in Windows (this is a different story why it was done this way)

So need to have a perl script to login to the Linux machine from the windows and then need to call the PushData.sh

Solution:

We installed the strawberry perl as the perl which comes with EPM do lack some SSH packages needed for the remote login.

Batch file published to Workspace which calls the below script

Deleting a Hyperion Planning dimension member, which refuse to get deleted

Let me explain the issue first and what needs to be done to overcome it.

Background:

Me and my collogue were testing the outline load utility (the option available in the workspace), we created 2 test members under the account dimension and trying to load the data to them.

We selected the Entity as the "Dimension to Import" and selected Account as "Driver Member Specification".

Issue:

We completed the testing and was trying to delete the two account members which were created, we couldn't delete those members. They are not part of any forms,calculation,reports etc....

Throws the error message that is associated with some other object. But there was none (no forms,calculation scripts etc..is is associated)
