What does Outline Load utility (OLU) offers?

As we all know that the Outline Load utility can be used to import metadata and data for standard & custom dimensions, attributes, UDAs, exchange rates, Smart Lists, and planning unit hierarchies from a flat file or a relational data source.

You can also export metadata and data to a flat file or export metadata to a relational data source using the Outline Load utility

Here let me cover how to load metadata & data from a relational data source using the Outline Load utility

Loading the Metadata from relational data source to Hyperion Planning using OLU

  1. Create a metedata.properties file
A sample .properties file is created as shown below which can connect to a external Relation data source along with the SQL to retrieve the needed metadata in the needed format with all the customized transformation you need, yes if you can't use ODI then this is awesome :-)

# /S:server where Planning is running
/S:Example-Planning-Server.com

# Application where you want to load the metadata
/A:Vision

# User used to load the metadata
/U:admin

# jdbc catalog - the Source Relational Schema
/RIC:HYPTEST

# jdbc url - the Connection URL to connect to the Relational Data-source  Schema
/RIR:jdbc:oracle:thin:@//database:1521/HYPTEST

# jdbc driver
/RID:oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver

# Relational Data-source Schema user
/RIU:TDQPSPB

# rdbms password
/RIP:vrX4PSFuHXyyBQGQ0o6yHFzY2T7KLyHgcp3WAqQuJJ/JlYRlIV

# ignore order of members
/-O

# sql queries for loading the Entities & Employee Dimension

#Kscope16 blog hop: BI & Data Warehousing sessions not to miss

This blog is something special to me, it’s not just a technical blog but expressing my interest on the presentations that will be presented in ODTUG KSCOPE16

In addition to EPM (which is my core area of interest) I would like to pay close attention to the “BI & Data Warehousing” the reason being simple there is always close integration EPM with the BI & Data warehousing.

We all know that EPM always to have a closer relation with the BI & data warehousing (it could be pushing/pulling the data, reporting, data mining etc...)

The Topics I am most interested in attending (in the order they appear in the website)

Database connection url difference for DB 12c with Hyperion Planning

A quick one today.I was in the process of creating a Hyperion Planning application in 11.1.2.4 and came across this issue.

As a routine I have created the needed schema with the needed access and was creating a data source for the Hyperion Application.

As usual practice this was my connection url
jdbc:oracle:thin:@DbServer:1521:pdborcl

But I was not able to connect to the database.

How to assign more than one owner for an Planning Unit

A interesting discussion came in Oracle OTN which says that having trouble in mapping Budgeting Requirement for approvals and data entry. Is there any way that we can have more than 1 user for any given planning unit?

For example there are 20 entity members and we each member represents a different location/geography. Each Entity member do have 1 user for data entry and 1 approval. The Power User from the Head Office that also have authority to change/update the budget data for all the 20 entities.

So how can 2 or more users can play the role of Owner for a particular planning unit (Entity)?

Well we all know that under users you cannot select more than 1 user for a Planning unit.

Data Relationship Management Integration with FDMEE-Part 1

In this blog let me cover the integration of the DRM with FDMEE (ohh boy i started to love this Patch, its getting very interesting)

As per the product read me

In this release, Data Relationship Management has been integrated with FDMEE. Data Relationship Management functions as a hub where reporting structures are maintained, analyzed, and validated before moving throughout the enterprise. It is a change management solution for building and retaining consistency within master data assets.
Used in combination with FDMEE, you can:
• export dimensions and hierarchies from an ERP system to Data Relationship Management
• import data load mappings from Data Relationship Management

To integrate Data Relationship Management with FDMEE (optional):

Integrating On-Premises FDMEE with Oracle PBCS (Cloud)

Well gone are the days where we need to upload a file extracted from the Oracle EBS to the Oracle PBCS. Yes the Patch Set Update: FDMEE 11.1.2.4.200 allows you to integrate a On-Premise FDMEE with the Oracle PBCS and many more cloud applications. Cool huh...

Oracle Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management, Enterprise Edition can be used as a primary gateway to integrate on-premise and cloud based applications. This features allows EPM customers to adapt cloud deployments into their existing EPM portfolio. You might use the integration to import data from existing on-premise ERP applications, or synchronize data from on-premise EPM applications. For example, a Oracle Hyperion Financial Management customers can add Oracle Hyperion Planning data or a Planning customer can add more Planning applications. In addition, this integration includes writing back from a cloud to an on-premise application or other external reporting applications.

Opening big forms in Hyperion Planning

Came across this issue that Hyperion Planning a data form (it was one of the biggest form we had)  is taking a while to show the data and shows "fetching data" for a while.

This is was tested on 11.1.2.4

For On premise Hyperion Planning

Well there is flag available (for quite some time) to change the value of the number of the rows & columns are populated in the data forms.

As per the on premise document http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E57185_01/epm.1112/planning_admin.pdf

Customized role for End users to access the FDMEE (Data Management)

In one of our Hyperion Planning implementation, the user was asking for a role for a particular user to run the Interfaces and the batches.

We all know that “Run Integration” will do the trick (nothing special). After giving the “Run Integration” role to the needed user.

This is what the user was able to see/access, before you say it’s working as expected cool, there is a issue.

Calling calculation script from FDMEE

An interesting and quite useful functionality provided by FDMEE, Calling a calculation script once the data is loaded to a Planning/Essbase application (well the my co-worker Walid enlighten  me,thanks buddy)

The actual documentation of the functionality is here  Using Calculation Scripts

Under the Setup ->Register Target Application-> Calculation Script (3rd tab)
